Tales of the Gearhaven Foundation

Nerdist has an article on a very well done video comparing the sizes of various structures in speculative fiction. Definitely worth the watch.

Meanwhile, slowly but surely, the Gearhaven Foundation is being put together for a launch. This will be a charitable effort to support steampunk (and dieselpunk) institutions, businesses, clubs, designers, artists, musicians...basically, anyone someone thinks deserves an award? We'll consider. Established or new, the field is open.

Gearhaven-Prize1

Just drop by the Gearhaven Estate in Caledon II and grab a notecard from the portrait, or drop your suggestions in the mailbox nearby!

And since--for mysterious reasons known only to the Sheriff--I still had a parcel, lo these millenia later, there, we've also put out a notecard giver at the Armada Convalex in Steelhead Bay.

The text of the notecard in both locations:
♔ What is the Gearhaven prize?

The Gearhaven Prize is given out by the Gearhaven Foundation to individuals, businesses, groups or sims that embrace the spirit of what makes steampunk (and dieselpunk) an important, if niche, genre.

♔ When is it given out?

Quarterly, starting in January 2021.

♔ Who can be nominated?

Anyone that is doing something for steam that should be recognized, be that a charity group, an estate, a club, a clothing designer, a sim, an educational effort--tell us who you think deserves it, and we'll decide.

♔ Who decides?

Right now, the Duke and Duchess of Gearhaven, and Lady Justine of Gearhaven, but we are open to advice, and we will be adding jury members in time.

♔ How do you accept nominations?

In front of the Gearhaven Estate in Caledon II is a mailbox keyed to Duke Hiro Shatner-Orr. Drop notecards off there, or contact him directly with your nominees.
And that's it. Oh, there's work still to do--we need to finalize Gearhaven's coat of arms, for one, and then come up with a foundation logo, and eventually we'll need a website, most likely--but this starts the process. I'm quite looking forward to it.
