running out of time, better get out or get in

So, remember forever ago, when I said I'd be following up the /Vae Victis\ geta post with the rest of the shoes...that I've still been collecting, because I am an obsessive muffin...? Anyway, yeah, that's now starting to happen, but it'll be a while before it's all graphicked up for posting.

Something else did happen, though:

rezz-day-SL

Ah, right. That thing I never celebrate came up. But this year I actually received an email from the Lindens?

And, of course, to follow that:

sl-milestones

Yeah...For some reason the email, and in particular the image above, completely kicked the stuffing out of me for three weeks. No idea why. Maybe that I found myself appalled that the "average" SL resident visits 100 regions. That's almost criminal, the grid is WIDE. Same thing with the teleports.

But the last thing, I just do not believe. There have been times I thought I logged out, and didn't, and I come back to lots of blinking IM windows. Totally my bad. But I have never, not even once, left my computer on, running, and logged in 135 days. Not. Possible.

But the bigger reason I sunk into the tarn was...761. That's the number that's been ringing in my head, and it's more advanced now than in July, when the actual rez day, and the "My Year in SL" pic, happened.

That's over two years. I've had the Eternal Headache (and that name is comically apt at this point) for over two years.

And...that...that was kind of a lot.

So I'm working on remantling, and working--harder--on accepting the Headache is now a feature, not a bug. So goes all flesh, et cetera.

the-new-garden-TG

But hey! The Garden's been revised in Tannhauser Gate Station! That's good news, right?

ryan-reynolds-great

Yep. Just peachy.

and that's when the world seemed to stop (part two)

First off: the entry for the Typhon Monstrous Adorned Horns entry has been updated. Not a lot of changes, but in going back through it, I realized I'd left out a link for /Vae Victis\ (the mainstore}, Abnormality (their coming soon page, because the next Abnormality round is in August, two months away), and I realized I never got back to the Vineyard Terrace information cards on swamp biomes. In a very tangible sense, swamps are the natural representation of liminal space.

Continuing from yesterday...

The Daitengu Tall Geta from Vae Victis.

We're starting with the second set of panels from the run, and...wait.
Did...I not have more panels to show off?? I mean, I know the last picture from yesterday was another multi-shot, but...I could have sworn I took more pictures...

A...pparently not! I just chose to show off some of the insets in the squnched-short version.

Well. These are AT THE MAINSTORE BY NOW, and--having tracked them down in the meantime--I now know they run L$450 for the set in store. (Which, I should mention again, includes both the short-tall and the REALLY tall versions, plus each geta has the choice of plain or etched panels, in the colors so chosen.

I must love the sound of deadlines swooshing by.

Next up: something unofficial I decided to do on my own--who DOES make the highest heels in SL? Tune in...uh...whenever I post again?

I tried. I'm tired.

15 June, 2024

and that's when the world seemed to stop (part one)

Today...is the day. Or at least today will be a good start? Maybe a good start. I have no idea, I'm standing in the cam sim for this round of Cyber Fair.

Sight-seeing the Cyber Fair.

This may not be the full line-up-and-comparison shoefest I had planned? I now own at least a third of the really high and/or really weird platforms on the grid, so I really want them shown off SOMEwhere. And might as well run the demos while I'm at it, because I'm certain sure I'm not going to keep ALL of them. Demo or actual platform, that is a LOT of weird fetish footwear to dump in my inventory! (Azoury and Madame Noir, I'm looking at you.)

The Daitengu Tall Geta set from Vae Victis.

So first off, I forgot to do a thing. I like to show whatever it is straight out of the box, untouched--so to speak. This time, I didn't, because I so rarely use the flat-footed option for Maitreya these days, there was a lot of height adjusting that seemed necessary. So, out of the box, added, considered, tinted shades to match the whole frosted oiran look, then--even though these are the shorter version--I shortened them further.

The Daitengu Tall Geta set from Vae Victis.

Ten colors for the hanao (the padded straps), ten colors for the dai (the angled, wooden flat piece in traditional geta), and a full twenty-two colors for the ha (the raised stilt portion). And each pairing there features a plain wooden stilt, or one that's the same tone, but has an inset with either etched art in the wood, or ink-painted motifs.

The Daitengu Tall Geta set from Vae Victis.

Ooh. I feel dizzy all the way up here.

The Daitengu Tall Geta set from Vae Victis.

Now, adjustments, color changes, and panel art!

Some of the inset art panels for the Daitengu Tall Geta set from Vae Victis.

Well...four pieces of panel art. This took me a LOT longer than I thought, so this is not all the etched or painted panels on the Daitengu geta, and I'm hoping to get to the rest tomorrow! It's now far too close to four am for my liking, so I'm off to rest the injured brain and everything it's trying to control. See you for part two!

19 April, 2024

I wanna live a vibrant life, but I wanna die a boring death

LORE-Ham-Tree
This is the..."Ham Tree"...at LORE. It's a group gift.

Mesmer's love of meat where meat should not be is spreading...

Anyway, it's been...void stars, the 30th of March. That is a long time not to post. There's been...a steady uptick in head pain. And, I think, two falls? Not sure. Maybe just one.

*Em goes to check...*

So, I did mention the concussive episode. Right. So the fourth fall...eh, let me just grab what I said, it'll be easier...
[10:39 PM] Emilly: I made a snappy little graphic earlier.

Happy Fourth Fall Day! (2024).
[10:40 PM] Emilly: Apparently that was too subtle for the rest of the court. Ah, well.
[10:42 PM] Emilly: Ranked from least stupid to most, I'd say this was just slightly less stupid than trying to put on a coat and falling instead. This was me trying to stand up, but being too far forward on the chair, when I reached for stable surfaces, the gas lift in the chair supports engaged, and I slipped right off.

[11:04 PM] Emilly: There was profanity. One of the girls came in and pointed out that my legs were not, precisely, oriented as legs usually were. And then began the debate, between saying hello to the EMTs again, and just going about the rest of the day. The lynchpin for this being, can Em get off the floor by herself?
Should I have just nodded and gone to the ER? Maybe. But at what point do I just accept that fragility is my state of being? That, I don't know.
[11:07 PM] Emilly: It was...a struggle. There is a fear of falling developing, and I'm not even sure it's worth heading off, because it's in the places where I think I can just move through it, do things I used to do, overreach to get something that seemed necessary at the time...So, it's going to be a great deal of second-guessing myself, which will be annoying. But, maybe necessary too.
And hoo boy, am I being careful now. Of course, the screaming back and left leg pain--must've been the left leg that took the brunt of the latest fall--is helping me considerably to be careful.

I'm just...I'm getting so tired of falling. I have seemingly gone from my current age to 197, and that's hard to deal with.

Anyway. Want to get this done...er...

Damn it. All set to go through Emmation City's haunted house, and...now I have to log off. Gah!

Okay, fine, one image, and then we'll be in the full review. So part one, I guess.

Madame Noir's boots

...or not, because I can't remember which sim I took this in, and--beyond being from Madame Noir--what's the name of these insane clompy plats. Even better, now I can only find two images of the original (brief) run of eight! ARGH!!

First--or maybe third--shot of the first Daitengu geta run.

But here's the second shot for this post, I think...the third? That I took this night. Can't find the other two. That is deeply bugging me, but onward we stagger. So part one coming...I hope soon.

Tay-Tay is exhausted, and so am I.

16 September, 2019

she said, "Lightnin', I'm figurin' to sail, I'm sailing on today"

These exist. I'm not sure why I expected coffin shoes not to exist, we have everything else--coffin bookcases, coffin backpacks and purses, sex coffins...why not shoes?

In other news...I realize the Twisted hunt this fall is all about damnation. Which, for most Christians, at least many of the American ones, means fire and brimstone and heat. I get that.

But wau, Sinful Needs, this is the single most unflattering lighting scheme you could have come up with. It's slightly better once folks move off the port-in pentagram, because that's a light source too. But between the glowing pentagram and the walls crawling with flames, it's stunningly wrong.

At any rate, the place profile said:
SPOOKY INTERACTIVE HAUNTED HOUSE

Well, okay then. But the usual question: have I been here before?

The trail of bloody footprints to the door isn't exactly reassuring.

Oh, my goodness. I have been here. But not for years...in fact, I think it was one of the first haunts I covered in SL!

I should have remembered the couch's instakill option.

Because there's always a nursery in a haunted house, right? For...reasons.

And I definitely should have remembered the ghosts that kill upstairs.

I did find the "secret" hidden laboratory...for the second time. And no, not telling you where. Very old school, yes, obviously considering the last time I was here it was 2016, but still worth it for the completionist.

06 October, 2018

my coal black thoughts reappear, reprimand

There's an exhibition I must make time for at the Museum of Caledon by Fitch Levkoda, called "Disturbia". It seems to feature dolls...and their deconstruction. Sounds kind of up my alley.

In the meantime, I went to the Secret Affair event mentioned yesterday, and...yep, I was right, parts are extremely cringeworthy.

Don't get me wrong, Gothika is one of my favorite films. Along with Session 9 and Shutter Island. Jacob's Ladder (upon which Team Silent based much of the look of the original Silent Hill games) haunts me to this day. But are these honest, open portrayals of how most mental institutions operate? Not really.

And depictions like this don't help. While there have been some really horrific abuses of the mentally ill--Willowbrook State School immediately comes to mind--by those who should have had their best interests at heart, by and large places that care for the mentally ill are at most, understaffed and run-down. These days, you won't find bloodspattered psychopaths armed with cleavers skulking the halls, eating live rats and screaming about the ticking of burning clocks.

In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in a mental hospital armed with anything more damaging than a taser. Most orderlies rely on communication skills, or just muscle and help to calm someone down, and even a childrens' ward housing only extremely violent patients would never feature one wandering the halls brandishing a knife longer than her forearm.

Sure, in abandoned institutions--some, in which, truly terrifying things took place--you will find signs of decay, broken floors, broken windows, rust and vermin. But while they were operational? No, nothing like that. And even in the abandoned ones, the only rotting corpses you'll find are homeless men who crawled in and died of an overdose, or too much time outside.

And oh, how I loathe game rips. I count three in this room alone: the patient Alice from Alice: Madness Returns (the other big Alice game rip across the grid being the Crying Alice fountain), the floating caged corpses from the first Silent Hill, and the caged, 'Flesh Lip' monsters from Silent Hill II.

So no, I'm not thrilled by something playing to the norm of 'mentally ill people are scary'. It's a trope I think has been more than played out, right up there with 'if it has brown skin it's a terrorist' and 'lesbians will bathe in your blood'. None of these things are true, they're all just lies of convenience.

(If anyone still has doubt about the link between stigma against the mentally ill and horror films, try these articles on for size:

Movies Misrepresent Mental Illness in Every Way;
Horror movies portraying the mentally ill as violent;
Horror Movies and the Exploitation of Mental Illness; and
Why the Depiction of Mental Illness in Horror Films is Damaging.)

That being said, I did track down Adam n' Eve's 'cell' and buy at least one more color to start from their shoe line.

This is the red version, which isn't specifically haunted, but I'm tucking it into the Hallows folder anyway, because they're built to last and will go with a lot of my red Hallows outfits.

And this is a look at the soles and the heels. Near as I can figure, only the white shoes have the bloody variant, which I suppose makes sense--the darker tones, like this red, wouldn't show blood, after all.

(Both of the shoe shots were taken at Carrie's, by the way, where it was much less grim.)

05 October, 2018

but you can weave the unraveled strings

This listing is none of the things it says it is. It's not Victorian, it's not busty, what on earth, people? I am disappoint.

Anyway, let's talk a new event, this month's iteration of Secret Affair, where the theme is "Asylum". So I full expect some cringe-worthy offerings, but at least one maker's doing something really fun.

These are Adam n' Eve's "Straight Jacket" shoes, in white (plain), from the event. Just for full revelation, I loathe peeptoe shoes. I don't know why--I like sandals, I like painting my nails, some styles are definitely cooler in the summer...but...peeptoes. Most of them deeply bug me.

These are the white shoes (bloody). Which are really well done. And these peeptoes...I can handle. I think they're really fun, they could so fly with a 'sexy nurse' costume, or even just a bloody dress for an evening out!

According to Seraphim's entry on the event, each shoe will retail for L$290 a pair, I think each pair comes with just one plain shoe, or one bloodied shoe, but I'll check and follow up on that when I go. I'm definitely interested in other colors, though. These have potential.

There are thirteen different colors in all, and the fatpack is only L$860 for everything. Sounds like a good deal to me!

12 December, 2013

symbols of the sun, symbols of the snow

For the holidays, the Zero store has the Makronome free on the Marketplace. What are this? I'm not entirely sure, but...it plays holiday music.

And possibly runs on blood.

Moving on, Meli Imako's December free gift is an absolutely amazing lace and fur trim winter coat, which I for one am nabbing with glee. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, because I still feel like I'm the Cro-Magnon in the corner putting ochre handprints on the cave walls when it comes to working with mesh. Still, it's very pretty, and very seasonal.

Old Time Prims is offering a simple black umbrella freebie; it states it comes with the hold pose, but does it fold and snap open? That, I do not know.

You want an antlered hoodie in a holiday print? Sure, why not?

By the way, a more efficient thermoelectric generator has been invented, that converts both solar energy and heat to electricity. They're running tests on the prototype now,

I can't believe I forgot to check Isis Boutique for Advent gifts! She does have one up this year. If you haven't been a participant in previous years, then everything's going to be new to you, but it seems to be a mix of the past couple years' Advents, to be honest. Still, there's a tasty holiday blend of warm socks, ballet shoes, and seasonal flats, so if you want that, hop on by. All previous gifts on the tree are also available.

And have a very twitchy kitten. Happy holidays.

15 July, 2013

is it hard to let go at the foot of the rainbow?

[11:30] TBF Loudspeaker shouts: Dear guests. It has come to our attention that some men impersonate women and seduce other men. Please make sure your 'partner' is Voice-verified.

Now that's just rude.

So, back to Hair Fair!

I unpacked everything last night, so my oh-so-careful organization (read, my lack of any organization at all) is now vaguely alphabetical. So here we go.

(from the Hair Fair album)

Sugarsmack's going in an odd direction. This is "Phoebe" in Dolce Cream-Hazelnut. I think it looks pretty good from the back...

(from the Hair Fair album)

...and then, there's the front.

Not shown: everything else, because it was just...really odd. You can find Sugarsmack in the Cloud sim at Hair Fair.

(from the Hair Fair album)

Next up, lamb, and this is their "Blue Monday" style, in Blush. I lub this style to death. I don't know whether it's the bangs or the way the curls expand and contract when I move my head, as if the entire hair's pulsing like a live animal.

(from the Hair Fair album)

This is "Ceremony" in Blood Fruit, and it's also a very pretty, short casual style.

(from the Hair Fair album)

This is "Temptation" in Kinda Blueberry, which I also quite like. And it doesn't seem to have that expanding-contracting, "the hair is breathing!" effect. I'm not sure if that's a plus or a minus.

(from the Hair Fair album)

Though I do actually like that everything's brought over the shoulders. Some long hair styles, I want to see hair down the back, but this one seems to work as it is.

(from the Hair Fair album)

And this is "Thieves Like Us" in Mango, and this one, at least, is a definite must-have; not that I draw too many allusions to the persona behind the glass, but seriously, most of the time? This is my hairstyle. Even now, typing this, I have French braids that trail down to mid-bust, so yeah. I could seriously get into owning this in SL.

(from the Hair Fair album)

Finally, this is "True Faith" in Milk, and damn. I just love all of their Hair Fair styles this year.

You can find lamb on Brickness.

(Eye makeup is from Censored [now closed, though contact Ms. Cindy Oysternatz for information on her rebranding]; lipstick is the Stringer Mausoleum's State Blue, currently sold at the Flux event [the theme this month is Americana, and if you go for no other reason, you have to go see the motel; it's a masterpiece of kitsch reconstruction!]. Eyeglasses were purchased at Waterworks, or at a summer festival that Waterworks was at; I can't remember which.

(The outfit's a mix between the Gor Gurls Wears Pants in Green, and Pixeldolls' Armored Cheongsam in Olive [with the underthings nicked from Nomine's Steampunk Cohawkin dress]. Pixeldolls, alas, is no more, but I think Ms. Protagonist is working with Volstead or the Pale Empress now.

(The stockings are from Canimal; I'm not sure if it's still open. The shoes [which again, you won't see] are the "Sascha" demi-boots in Clay; honestly, I might toss in a pic at the bottom here, 'cos I like the style so much. They're from Malfean Visions.

(from the fashion album)

(See? Dead cute, aren't they?

(And finally, the skin's from PixyStix; this is her "Mira" in 01 Cream, with black brows. And the "Rain Tree" eyes were a gift from Poetic Colors.)

Up next on the Mesh Around hunt: Asteria Creations.

(from the scavenging album)

I'm not big on beachwear, even on SL (I'm still looking around for vintage-seeming fabrics so I can make my own 1910 swimming dress, with the bloomers and the long sleeves), but I've seen beachwear, SL and RL. And this strikes me as lingerie with a skirt. Am I wrong?

(from the scavenging album)

I'm not saying it's bad, per se--it's just confusing as a "Beach Mini".

Okay, now life gets a little weird. Next up on the hunt is MG Jewellery's "Zaadori" earrings. So I had to change to a shape that had ears. (Because my nekos don't have them, as a general rule. Being as they have their ears elsewhere.)

(from the scavenging album)

So, now I'm a mutant, but I have ears. And hanging from them are the "Zaadori" earrings in jade and gold...

(from the scavenging album)

...and the earrings in jade and silver. They're a little large, admittedly, for what I'd normally choose for adornments, but I like how they're made. I should wear more jewelry, I think. I got out of the habit.

So, Has Been's gift turned out a bit...odd. First, there were six gift boxes in the package, all marked #51. In order, they were labeled Womens, Mens, Mens, Mens, Mens, and Womens. But come to find out, only the last two can be rezzed out and unpacked. I have no idea what's going on with the first four gifts.

(from the scavenging album)

But this is the men's bowling shirt, with matching...um...disconnected...shoes....Err. Why are they disconnected?

(from the scavenging album)

Yep. Just to confirm, these are the mesh shoes out of the box.

Maybe I'm not tall enough? (I'm wearing size S, by the way, on the mens' shirt.)

(from the scavenging album)

And this is the womens' skirt, which I'm wearing in size M (and the jeans aren't included, I just had them on for lower-body coverings). And...Errr. Still floating. That is so weird.

(from the scavenging album)

And as you can see, in this one I've edited the shoes (yay for not rigged!), but the oddity didn't stop there--because after I edited the shoes in place, so they wouldn't be hanging out below my feet...they stopped touching the ground entirely. For any reason.

And that's all for this entry! More to come!

06 June, 2012

touch me once and you'll know it's true

Next hunt update bit:
More on the "Mesh Around Hunt, and we're starting with Trompe L'oeil's "Summer Dots" patio set:

(from the scavenging album)

This is a sweet little set. It would go perfectly with a glass-topped patio table, or a rattan-and-canvas umbrella--and each item has several poses from which to choose. I like this one. Even more importantly, it introduced me to Trompe L'oeil as a store, and I am definitely going to be back.

(from the scavenging album)

Leverocci's leopard booties are a bit tricky to adjust, but they can be adjusted. Two settings can be changed--the color of the soles, and the zipper-pull on the side of each boot. Other than that, eh, I've seen better, but I like how good nearly all mesh shoes look, out of the box.

(from the scavenging album)

Errrr. Mesh brass knuckles. From Epic Arsenal. In three different shades.

(Which, btw, kills my outfit when worn on Niran's. So, given the choice between brass knuckles and my dress, guess which one I'm always going to pick.)

(from the scavenging album)

The metallic bangles from [Sleeping Koala]. There's also a metallic flower ring.

...yeah, that's about all there is to say about them...

Next up, e! Eclectic Apparel's offering, the "Carolina" blazer in Plum:

(from the scavenging album)

Which is kind of confusing, because that's not a blazer, that's a modified bolero. With long sleeves. Bwuh? It's also sized M for the size that fits me (it comes in XXS-L.)

(from the scavenging album)

Next, the "Geode" ring from HANDverk. Um...wau, that thing looks heavy. It's got good detail, don't get me wrong, but...yeah. Cumbersome accessory. Included in the package are rings for the right or the left hand, and there's also a red sunburst clock (not shown, but you can see what that looks like here).

More to come!

it's just your shadow on the floor

(This section was written on July 11th...) Great. Sat myself down today after oversleeping, and told myself sternly I was not going to log...
