I've been pulling for something different, but the same is all we get

Oh, dear.

dollholic1

I am so not in the right place.

Save that this is Dollholic. In all its pink, pastel, twee glory.

dollholic2

Better.

dollholic3

So this is something the folks behind the Kinky event put together. It runs heavily to 'girly' colors, lingerie, and Asian-influenced makeup sets.

dollholic4

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing here that doesn't fit their particular concept--and there's nothing here that isn't well made, with a good eye for detail. Many of the stores I am not ashamed to say I've shopped at--precisely for this reason, they make lovely lingerie that fits well and looks good.

dollholic5

I just...with the name...expected less....

dollholic6

Pink? I guess? Like, the doll community--even now that I'm largely outside it--is more than just twee babygirls?

But hey, if it works, more power to them, I'm just really not in that demographic.

she helped me with my suitcase, she stands before my eyes

This one confuses me. Their blurb:
We are just a group of friends who like to hang out and enjoy meeting new people. We have a club that we periodically host events at and a Baby Girl RP playground in the sky.
Welcome squinting-face-grin-emojo
Chill , Voice Chat , Laid Back , No Drama , Hang Out, haunted hous
So that's the only reason this listing is in search? The mention of "haunted hous" at the end?

Great.

exoticleg1

So, first things first. The port-in-point is a circle, surrounded by a half-circle wooden wall. But, directly in front of the avatar's feet is a teleport pad. If it's not set for the haunted house, left-click it and pick the haunted house. Simple and done.

Of course, the fresh stag corpse spilling entrails on the house's porch is not the best sign...Also, I didn't turn around for a better look, but there's both an extremely quick-paced male scream sound loop that's rather annoying from something on the lawn, as well as something with...shall we say...extreme gastric disturbance? I mean, I realize that part of the land description says "a Baby Girl RP playground", but that doesn't mean a five-year-old's sense of humor, does it?

exoticleg2

There's a lot of death in this house. Bloody patches, corpses of human and animal, lots of death motifs. I can't figure out yet if this is one of those "look we found all these things" houses, or if there's actually a theme.

Beyond the constant intestinal gas, I mean.

exoticleg3

Up to the second floor, and wau, they really seem to adore this one array of melting candles from Medieval Fantasy. This is the third time I've seen it used.

exoticleg4

Make that fourth. We've discussed the hazard of repeating props or set pieces in haunts before--one or two are fine, but more than that causes severe visual dissonance in both RL and SL haunts. It throws us out of the mindset we need to be in to properly take in the atmosphere of any haunt. (One of my problems with the proliferation of game rips this year--I see something I've seen in thirty other haunts, I'm immediately bored with it.)

exoticleg5

Everyone should know by now my position on kids--even wholly prim kids--on Adult sims. I may grant one point for the fact that she is so obviously dead. But still. At the very least it's tacky beyond all reason, and at the worst, it makes me worry about ageplay on the premises, and not want to be there.

Also tacky beyond all reason: I found the source of all the farting. Which makes even less sense, as it's a skeleton doing it. But really, no one needed this in a haunt. NO. ONE.

exoticleg6

And of course, leaving the house, the first thing that catches my eye is the direct game rip from American McGee's second Alice game, and...yep, that's it, done here.

Do not recommend. Go if you want, or if you're totally cool with toilet humor. Otherwise, there are better haunts on the grid.

26 September, 2019

blossom falls and clouds the air, powder trails the one in care

Now wait. The blurb for this sim says:
Daddy, Daddy's, Daddies, Daddys, Babygirl, Babygirl's, Baby girl, Babyboys, Femdom, Singles Boards, Singles, Dating, Home Rentals, Voice Hangout, Games, Daddy Dom, DDLG, Submissive, NO Nudity, Haunted House, Halloween,
Huh. So, I was wondering why this pastel nightmare ad was in the middle of the haunts, but I guess the last three words explain it?

I vaguely remember, like, 2016? 2017? Hitting some Daddy/babygirl land that had a haunt, but...I honestly don't remember more than that. It had a really creepy teddy bear, I think, but that's about it.

Hoo, boy. The pastel game is strong.

All right, there's a port down. Good, let's get away from the unicorn taffy madness, kthxbai. (I waited five minutes for the pumpkins to rez in on the hay bales behind the sign; I gave up and just ported down.

Cute entrance. Can't tell from the shot, but the skeleton takes off and puts back on the cowboy hat. Clever.

Here, you'll find skeletons. (And you don't normally see skeletons holding up skeleton parts that aren't theirs; I have a picture of that I can upload later, or you can just go see it in person.) You'll find at least one visible spider, warning to the arachnophobes. There's at least two Silent Hill rips (from SH4, The Room, and from P.T., if it matters). But most of the haunt is, overall, fairly clever.

I really liked the hand lights.

These skeletons fade in and out to the sole repetitive sound byte that's somewhat annoying: a thick, repeated "Boo...". Still, I do like the ghosting in and out, that's pretty neat.

Overall, I'm going to recommend this one, but keep in mind you'll have to wade through uber-kawaii pastelerie to get there, and due to the heavy scripting both upstairs on the main sim, and actually in the haunt itself, things can get pretty laggy. But all in all, I think it works pretty well.

what has happened to it all? crazy, some would say

This was not my most shining moment.
[22:26] Kxxxxxxx Rxxxxxxx: hey nice avatar...im new to this game and saved 238 of those linden things from a contest and camping...im trying to get this skin/shape combo for 700...i feel bad for asking but can you please lend me 462 so i can get it?...if not thats fine too...just seems nobody wants to help me out
[22:26] Emilly Orr: Oh, honey, go tell someone who cares.
I know. I know. But seriously, we hear this all the time. And usually it's either "pay my rent" or "buy a skin for me". And no. Just no. Sick of it. SICK of it.
[22:27] Emilly Orr: Get a job, buy Lindens, or find a sugar mama.
[22:27] Emilly Orr: Don't beg. Ever.
He poofed from the event I was at at that point, but I pulled his profile. One day old. One whole day. RL picture for his SL bio page. His total bio at this point?
"Hello Im new to this virtual world and just seeing what its all about. I like extreme sports and my favorite would be surfing. I listen to all kinds of music depending on my mood. Always up for exploring if you know any neat sims to check out let me know.."
So maybe not the bot he sounded like? Though he was wearing something very close to the Philip avatar from 2006, so...I didn't even know avatars that old were still in the library. So that's suspicious on its own, because I'm fairly sure the only way someone new gets that avatar is to get it donated from someone else. Or have your main give your alt that avatar, right?

But yeah, on a better day, I might have been friendlier, and told him about potential employment opportunities and where to look, but I still would have told him not to beg. Because very few people at this point will respond to that. It's nearly always a scam, and one I refuse to fall for.

In other news...

When I rezzed in at Enchantment to check out the new round, this is what I saw. At first I thought she had pastel tattoos that hadn't rezzed in yet; but no, that was just the shading on the skin.

And okay, this is definitely my biases showing, but walking around with a binky? In public? In an adult avatar? Please no.

She did have a cute AO, though.

Her SL bio, by the way? Is complete gibberish. Is anyone surprised?
Ϯ[ƛxxxxxxxx Ƥxxxxxx-ßxxxxxxx Ṩxxxxxx]Ϯ
ϮƤυρρẏ ɠįгℓϮ ϮĻįȶȶℓę/вαвчgιяl TεиdεиcιεѕϮ ϮṨђẏϮ

ϮNσт ѕнσят jυѕт ƒυи ѕιzεϮ ϮHαиdƒυlϮ ϮBlυитϮ
Ϯƒąмįℓẏ Iѕ ενεяẏтђįиɠϮ
Yeah. Because that's readable.

I mean, look. I try not to kink-shame. As long as the avatar is vaguely proportional, I have nothing against more lush, curvaceous bodies, as long as they look like the body grew that way. Her curves are fine. The piercings and the binky, however, are jarring together. Maybe because one makes me think definitely adult, or at least teen, and the other makes me think of toddlers. The two states do not interact.

Moving on to something equally as baffling:
[22:28] Sxxxxxxx Mxxxxxx: i can not join the group tres chic. Anyone out there who ca help?
[22:28] jxxxxxxxxxx Rxxxxxxx: o.O
Yeah, that was my reaction. How is she talking in the group she can't join? She's adding two and two and getting nineteen somehow.
[22:28] Sxxxxxxx Mxxxxxx: dang did i call. sorry
Yeah, I only noticed because the 'join the voice call' button popped up, and I declined. Because I always decline.
[22:30] Rxxxxxxxx Rxxxxxxx: I can help..lol
[22:32] Rxxxx Mxxxxx: LOL you are in the group. since you can chat and call from it
Yeah. That.
[22:32] Rxxxxxxxx Rxxxxxxx: The answer is.....You MUST be in the group...or you couldn't talk in this group chat Box...So you are already a member...and you cannot join again
Also that.
[22:32] Gxxxxxxxx Pxxx: well you joined tres chic cause you are taling in it
[22:33] Emilly Orr: Also, Tres Chic is showing up in your groups on your profile...
After that, she stopped talking, so I think she figured out she was already in the group. Kind of dim, there.

24 February, 2018

and there's a lot of potential in a mighty, mighty organ

Found this profile-wandering:
1. Be patient and understanding. No Dom/Domme is perfect; subbies have bad days like anyone else. Both parties are human and deserve respect even if it is given in different ways.
2. Be there for each other. Do your utmost to stay in contact. Don't just disappear.
3. Doms, don't be collectors. How can you possibly have the time for 10, 15 or more subs? They deserve better from you.
4. Subs, give your gift of submission only after careful consideration. Meeting someone than asking them to collar you after 30 minutes is NOT enough. Build trust first.
5. Open communication is key. Subs should be allowed to talk to their Dom and raise concerns, wants, desires in a respectful manner. Dom should consider carefully what their sub has to say. Doesn't mean bend to every request, but if there are problems you will never know if your sub cannot speak frankly with you.
6. Doms, don't take a sub just because you are lonely, and subs, don't serve just anyone who will say yes.

Some very good tips, all in all.

Daddy's Haunted Hideout

Next is Daddy's Haunted Hideout in Unique Falls. If ever there was proof needed of the growing popularity of the DD/lg phenomenon, it's the fact that here we have a haunt named after Daddy, and earlier, we had a haunt named after his (or another Daddy's) babygirl.

I rezzed into heavy brush, or unharvested corn stalks, or...whatever. Dead, taller-than-me weeds of some kind, anyway.

When I finally found my way out, I passed a tree rife with climbing skeletons...

...and remnants of a roller coaster. Do these two things go together?

Floating ghosts and hooded figures patrol the crypts.

This was a curiously old-school--like, a prop from many, many years ago in SL, definitely showing its age--prop, and I can't decide if it worked or detracted.

Simple but effective headstones...

...and in the one 'haunted house' on the property, this intriguing casket room.

It's not a bad haunt. It's better than average, but...outside of getting curiously lost at the start, it was just another haunt in the group of haunts I've done over the past two months. Not bad, just...not outstanding.

19 September, 2016

I put my soul in what I do

All right, I have some dread about this next one, and not the usual haunted house fears. Let me show you what I mean by quoting their event introduction:
babygirls nightmares

great for a fantasticly spooky time
movies maze haunted house monsters
jig games
cuddles and sexy time places
good for the dd/bg or any couple
or just a group of friends
Hmm. Okay, so for anyone who doesn't yet know--and this particular haunt is on Adult-rated land, one would assume for activities throughout the rest of the year--DD/lg (sometimes, as here, DD/bg) has taken off in a rather large way on SL. The acronym stands for Daddy Dom/little girl, or Daddy Dom/babygirl, and basically refers to a form of ageplay (ooh, I know, that Dreaded Word) wherein the dominant plays a father figure (or mother; "Mommy Dommes" use the acronym Cg/l for the most part, standing for Caregiver/little) and the submissive plays their child, ward, adopted urchin, what-have-you.

How does this differ from the 'average' ageplay, which is pretty much banned grid-wide? First, no child avatars are used. Second, though the submissive may engage in childlike behaviors--coloring, collecting stuffed animals, using pacifiers and "sippy cups", just to name a few--when sex is involved, it is always as adult to adult. (And throughout most of the DD/lg community RL, that holds true as well--the 'daddies' do not take underage, unconsenting bodies, but adult bodies capable of full consent.

Nevertheless, this particular form of BDSM squicks a great many people, and, while the Lindens have not yet stomped it flat, they may take a whim to do so. Sims like this, then, function in the hinterland of not being well understood, so are largely left alone.

But to the haunt! From the landing point, there are unearthly moans, growls, squeals and howls, and the land itself seems the standard vibrant purple/orange/acid green of more commercial haunts. Hmm...let's see if that impression changes.

Happy little ghosties, multicolored waters, big spooky spiders wandering in small prescribed circles...it really is sort of a child's fantasy of Halloween.

Campfire, complete with spangled blanket fort for cuddles from the spooks.

Ran into a well on my way from the campfire, and actually got startled by the girl that leapt out of the water. I had to wait for the effect to leave, then rez again before I caught what she was saying. Using a quote from one of my favorite bad movies for the sound, that was inspired.

Soooo much color on this parcel...though that dog-like, stitched thing is genuinely unnerving.

Speaking of unnerving...armed teddy bears? No thank you!

There is a parcel locked off to a particular group where their...uh...unicorns are kept, but beyond that, it's a wide, expansive haunt full of fun, bright colors, places to rest (or cuddle), and occasional jump-scares. I'm surprised in that I'm actually recommending this as a haunt stop for the year. It's a lot of fun, and well worth the time it will take to wander.

18 May, 2014

how come they're all living in places with too much snow or too much sand?

The Funny Puppet Fair opened May 11th, and I missed a great deal of it, but once I remembered, I had to go see what it was like. The first thing I noticed--and really, really liked--was that outside of the individual stores, everything's the same set of textures. I'd even take it one farther and say that everything on the parcel is the same texture, just retinted, so even though practically everything's mesh, it loads quite speedily. I had more problems getting individual vendors to load inside the stores than I had loading in the ground, the walls, the roofs, and the swooping fences. It also gave the entire grounds a charmingly cartoonish feel, without being overly precious or cute to the point of toxicity.

So, a few things about this fair. First, there's a free set of little mesh sorta-puppet avatars at the beam-in point--one's ostensibly "male" (as in, plain, no details, nice texturing, simple construction), and the other's ostensibly "female" (same body shape, but the torso's tinted pink and there's blushing on the cheeks). I'm not sure why they felt the girl version had to be blushing, but hey, their call.

The entire fair's separated into four swooping sections, with separate half-circles scattered throughout for small cart stands, and gacha stations (while some stores have their own gachas, most of the makers put their gacha machines in one central area per section). There's a L$1 hunt through the grounds, too, but the main problem I had with that is I've come to expect (for events and mall hunts, both) signs notifying which stores have prizes, and which don't. The problem with this hunt is that half the stores didn't have the sign up, and had prizes anyway. Plus, some of the carts had prizes, too. Probably the gacha areas have prizes.

I ended up (after today's trip through) with forty of the prizes; I'm fairly sure there are more. So take that under advisement. (Also keep in mind that many of the teeny stars really are teeny--like, the size of my avatar's thumb teensy. Not even kidding, some designers really sized them down. It's not Twisted hunt-hard--nothing is--but it's not easy.)

(from the events album; the crop tops from Spoiled/Rotten at the Funny Puppet Fair.)

Also, there's some disparity on what qualifies items for the "funny puppet" aspect. SL being SL, there seems to be a pretty even split between quasi-legitimately young girls' concerns (Lolita shoes, frills, lace, cutesy furniture items, holdable plushies) and adult women playing fetishized little girls. (Y'know, this versus this, say. And don't worry, both pictures are SFW.) In that case, there's a lot of pastel pink or teal or pale peach fabrics imprinted with cute foodstuffs, dessert items, or adorable baby animals, but everything's either cleavage to the waist or a miniskirt that hits the upper thighs.

The crop tops shown above are from Spoiled/Rotten, and they're found in section A. These retail for L$100 each, and come in four varieties: Panda (pink), Lamb (grey), Friendly Sushi (Teal), and Kitty (Tan Leopard on White).
(from the events album; the shorts from NS at the Funny Puppet Fair.)

Case in point, these are the shorts being sold on the left, and the full-body "modeled" shot featuring the shorts, and a top that is likely found in the main store, but not available in the event store, on the right. And for me, it's the top that pushes this outfit over the edge.

While they're a little lower than hip-huggers--okay, a staggering lot lower than hip-huggers--that's not exactly my issue. The mesh template is good, the texturing looks sound and well-shaded. As far as it goes, even the top looks well-made, but....well, let's just say the design does not exactly suggest melting ice cream to me, y'unnerstan? Especially as it's equipped with Lolas Tango appliers.

The "Cool Summer Shorts" from NS, found in section B. They retail for L$100 individually, or you can buy the HUD version which packs in all seven patterns in one pair of shorts for L$250.

(from the events album; the Dolly Doll avatars from Duck or Swan at the Funny Puppet Fair.)

Changing directions in a whip-snapping way, how about these anime-inspired Dolly Doll avatars? From head and hair to boots, with the mesh body in between, this is one of the better avatar deals you're going to find. It comes in four different variations (I think the boots are also sold separately, but I'm not entirely sure they'll fit anything other than this avatar), these are sweet and cute and largely innocent compared to half of everything they're surrounded by. I'm extremely tempted, not just because they actually do look like young girls, without looking like the wet-dream pouty-teenager version of 'young' we've grown accustomed to seeing on the grid--but because they look so much like adorable little dolls we can walk around in.

The Dolly Doll avatars from Duck or Swan can be found in section C. These retail for $350 per avatar (boots, hair, hairbow, dress, body and head included).

(from the events album; the Kawaii Candy t-shirt dress from RD Style at the Funny Puppet Fair.)

And we whiplash back for the last one I wanted to show off--the "Kawaii Candy" t-shirt mesh dress from RD Style. This is more of what I meant by the Fair splitting into two pretty clear camps: this is an outfit that plainly couldn't exist off the grid. There is zero way, zero way that dress would be held up at all with that plunging a neckline. But of course it's festooned with cutesy little candy motifs, because it's that fetishized little-girl thing again. Which would be sort of understandable, ish, save for the 19th-century-style gartered stockings. The hair (which is gorgeous--is it from Ploom or somewhere else?) can be worn by a young girl or an adult woman; the stockings might be able to be worn by an upper-ages teenager or an adult woman; but that dress can only be worn by an adult woman, because young girls just do not have that cleavage, and, frankly, shouldn't.

The Kawaii Candy outfit from RD Style in section D. This retails for L$120 and includes low-cut t-shirt dress, stockings with garters (including SLink appliers) and two "kawaii" tattoos. (Some outfits also include shoes for an equivalent price; this one does not.)

Overall, I liked the Funny Puppet Fair; I'd like to go back before it closes on the 25th and buy some things, because I like most of the offerings, too. It's pretty well organized and efficiently laid out, and I was able to cover everything at a nice, even stroll in about ninety minutes--and that included backtracking and picture-taking time. I just think we need to be careful that we don't oversexualize events that are supposed to have children in attendance (even if those children are only ones by SL standards).

You can find out more about the Funny Puppet Fair (including much better pictures than mine) on these blogs:
...and, goodness, that's now page 8 on Google search, I think that's plenty! You get the idea, anyway.

There's also a Youtube video on the fair, but...again, it's predominantly pitched to children, I think. Someone's missing the point...or ignoring it.

Still, that's hardly new to the doll community at large, is it? We have always been a widely diverse group of individuals. Young dolls, rag dolls, wooden dolls, cyborgs, gynoids, sexbots, porcelain dolls, littles, fetish dolls...and somehow, some way, we all manage to keep staggering together in a semi-united fashion. It takes a village...well, maybe if our village contains Bedlam. Still, it all works out.

In its own way, this does too. Check it out.

heart full of blues, space and time

While I decide if it's too late to back-date posts that contain the last of the Hair Fair pics, I got hit with this when I was listening...
