I cut the arrow from your neck, stretched you beneath the tree

through your eyes the strains of battle, like a brooding storm

and sometimes I get nervous when I see an open door

paranoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep

we gotta get out of this jail, we gotta let the future in

the kind who comes to poker, pockets stuffed with kings and aces

well it winds from Chicago to L.A., more than two thousand miles all the way

come down and join the circus, it's the end of your world

you can stop by for some cookies or some absinthe if you're in the neighborhood

and the punchline points at you

among the roots and baby's breath, I covered us with silver leaves

forever now unsaid, the words that might have warmed December

like a million times before, no dignity or grace, it's the price and not the race

I thought all that blood had been shed long ago

I'm not here for your entertainment, you don't really want to mess with me tonight

you're my perfect little punching bag

temporary happiness is like waiting for the knife
