you know that if you live like, you will die like

Normally, in this journal--save for dances in Steelhead and Caledon, and particular events in similar vein--I don't use real names. Granted, my sense of anonymizing verges on the absurd and transparent--still, it's my choice, and generally, I try to hold to it.

This is an exception to my personal guidelines.

Having spoken at length on many topics with Major Erasmus Margulis, we have come to the conclusion that there simply isn't enough personal verification of any potential wrongdoing for me to continue to hold any grievance against his cousin, Miss Lavendar Beaumont.

I am therefore retracting my considered, but perhaps nonetheless ill-chosen words, to and about Miss Beaumont in recent blogs.

I forthwith apologize for any harm my participation in this incident may have dealt her. I should remember, very few are like me, and view controversy as a desired thing.

My thanks to anyone wandering by for your understanding. We now return you to your train wreck in progress.

I am starting to shapeshift now mid conversation. I think I need some professional help.

I think maybe, but the jury's still out.

Shift addiction, shapeshifting, extreme malleability. It's less about how often you shift, and more about how much you change entire species.

I have over 70 discrete, separate avatars--most with their own underlying shapes, but at least with attachments, painted skins, eyes, attachments, clothes they specifically like to wear (if they wear clothes). A friend of mine who calls herself a metamorph has over 200.

Someone we both knew, several months back, had about 500 before he left the grid.

That is shift addiction. Where, if you have the money, and you see an avatar, you pick it up to try it out. Or you try your hand at making your own. Or you hang out at Grendel's a lot, see what new has come in.

I have a lot of different shades of human and vampire. But I also have fox, rabbit (black and white angora), rock, spider (black, zebra and earthtone tarantula, and large walker spider), neko (calico, every shade of Temenos Island's striped they make, and three of their spotted), panda, inkfish, cobra, Naga (pale blue scaled, I'm looking for more), mermaid (gold-tale, lilac-scale, and teal-scale, and also orca), elemental (earth, ice and smoke), anthropomorphic jellyfish, butterfly (four tones, in slow gradual process of tint), zombies (three different varieties), doll (three skins, looking for more) and Jell-O (lemon and alcoholic Blue Hawaiian). Though I wear them vanishingly rarely, I also have Domo-kun, Hello Kitty and a pale green poltergeist I have to try out.

And that's just what I can remember, and as I said, I don't have even a full hundred separate avatars yet.

That is shift addiction. :)

Spider, you say? Hmmm... Where might one look for a spider avatar?

Actually, there are several places--from full-size Driders to little scurrying tiny things. Plus I own a great deal of webwear, spider-dripping skirts, a set of 'footprints' that leave spiders behind me...

...you might say I like spiders. :D
