There are times with extended illness where we try to hide it as much as possible. Keep things light, laugh it off, downplay it. Dress up for guests so they don't worry.

Other times we sink into it, and the inner becomes the outer in cracked reflection.



I'm at the House of the Crimson Wings, a mixed therian nation/Japanese haunted house, depending on which direction one goes. I've covered it before--I had to go back to 2019 to find the actual post--and now I'm wondering how it's changed, or if it has.



I'm also showing off another /Vae Victis\ product. These are the "Astaroth" Cosmic Glasses, and they have mastered the arch look with zero effort.



This is as close as my cam skills will let me get--the eyeglasses chain? If you look close, they're not chain links, they're eyes.



The house is whispering to me again. And this isn't really the outfit for pinks, but...the pinks must be shown! It's tradition at this point.



And if you just want to completely goth out? There's a black option for all pieces.



There are eleven shades for the lenses, and seven shades each for the other sections. I'm going to have to find more superlatives beyond "gorgeous" and "beautiful", but these really are. I love the eye detail on the chain, and the pen-nib bridge is so clever.

Well, let's get this over with.



This little guy was pretty neat, but he reminds me uncomfortably of the Coraline ghost children.



I jumped into the next car, not realizing someone else had done the same thing, and before I could jump out again, we were off. Well, let's make the best of it...and apparently 'the best' includes game rips. These are two iterations of Alice from Alice: Madness Returns.



And this lass is from Resident Evil, I believe, where a lot of the mesh zombies on the grid come from.

I may have to take back something said earlier about the maker of this particular dark ride: namely, I thought the game rips were annoying, but pervasive enough on the grid some people may just not know what they mean. But going through this ride, seeing the same exact infringing properties--could it be that the maker included those game rips in the sales package??

If so, there's extremely disheartening.

Two out of five skulls, and that only because Jenia says if she's on the parcel, then every rider gets five Linden, and on Halloween, she's raising it to ten Lindens. So...a small amount of free Lindens if she's there, at least.

If nothing else, Jenia did look lovely in that outfit...it just wasn't designed for moderate sims.

There are so many things I need to review from Vae Victis, but this, this I had to get out today. Let me show you Aristo's Vow.



I am not going to present the best images, I well know--for that you have to go to Vae Victis' Flickr--but I did want to show off this lovely phial.



There's a gentle movement of the liquid within. Subtle, but it draws the eye.



And then...things got odd. I'd planned on showing off close shots of it, but I also wondered--can one sit and still hold this? The answer is...possibly yes?



But the phial will still float in one's left hand (only rigged for the left-hand hold), perpendicular to the avatar, not the orientation. I went through all the poses on this couch, and all but the last--lying on my stomach, one hand (the left, of course) buried in the cushion--worked. But three of those poses? Horizontal. So...it looks somewhat amusing floating horizontally.



And this last image was my attempt to capture the gentle, roseate glow this gives off--it, also, is extremely subtle in some lights. In this shot, the low, soft glow can *just* be discerned against the background. Still. The holder will know, and properly appreciate.

pain is a warning that something's wrong

STATIC has really outdone themselves with this one. I'm showing off the pink--and one other later--but it comes with a hud for seven total glistening melted-candy effects (pink, red, yellow, mint, blue, purple, and white as noted on their Flicker. To note: while the item is mesh, you need to wear a BOM skin, because you *need* to use their alpha--the alpha cuts of most commercial bodies will not do.



It's even...is "better" the right word?...in person, with the light picking up glistening liquidity on the candy sections, and while the broken exposed rib moves a little less than naturally, honestly, this is the best thing I've seen since that one gore and guts attachment I found that was only fitted for male bodies. (Sorry, don't remember who made it, wish I did, but it was at We <3 RP several months ago.)

This one comes rigged for Belleza Freya and Jake bodies. Reborn, Legacy female and Legacy male, and Maitreya. It runs L$396 at the Dreadborne Township Forest of Dead Toys holiday event. I have no idea when the event closes, as I found it sidewise (tracking something I wanted to own at the Vae Victis booth at Shop n' Hop, and finding it led to Quills and Curiosities, which gave me the landmark for the event.

They have a theme everyone tries to meet, and it's as much advertising/networking (through information folders and free gifts) as it is dedicated to sales.

I even tried the demo. And APART FROM IT NOT BEING RIGGED FOR ME, it looked amazing. It's at the latest round of We Roleplay, and it retails for L$450.

Seems a HUGE oversight, though!

I'm probbably one of five people who will be really excited by the fact I found a goat's blood flan recipe. But it sounds awesome and I want to make it.

(They have other recipes too! Woo!)

In the meantime, let's talk about the Silent Scream haunted house. It launched awfully bright and cheery, so I switched the Windlight to Eugene 2, and that added a significant bit of atmosphere.



I have no idea why the haunted house has patches of lava. Doesn't connect to anything else.



Off to one side was a little doorless cabin. The one thing that became abundantly clear through this entire haunt is age--and I don't mean, worn, faded furnishings, cobwebs, tattered curtains, though there were instances of that. I mean, this entire haunt was very old-school--prims, not mesh, original Grimworx haunt pieces, the whole deal.



I did like this tree, though. Simple, but amusing, and far more entertaining than the screamers scattered here and there.



Between the main haunt and the cabin is a graveyard, mostly gravestones with a few raised crypts. Then, there was this sign on the door in to the main haunt. I have to be honest, I have no idea what they meant here? This is a haunt nearly completely without gore or violence (barring one moment mentioned later).



Several rooms were like this--simple furnishings, what we could probably term as Haunt Standard, but not badly done.



And between this shot, and the one previous, near the entrance to the long room the skull in the crystal ball is in, is a small coffin with a sign saying "Look but don't touch!"

I touched. And out rose one of the Phantasm flying death spheres (NSFW warning here, probably, as that video does contain violence and gore) that attached to my head and drilled in. More irritating than debilitating, though the sound--a cross between a dentist's drill and a wood bore--was unnerving.

All in all, though, not a terrible haunt. Not spectacular, but if you're bored, it's a way to take up some time. None of the poses on the furniture are stellar, but again, that's probably not the point. Three out of five skulls.

This one is deeply weird. Their blurb:

So...nothing at all to do with anything seasonal, but oh-wait-Haunted-House. I haz a confuse.

So...where's the haunt?



Wandering a short distance discovered this jumpscare clown. I wasn't interested in jumping into him repeated times to get everything to rez in, but...this is suitably creepy, I feel, on its own.

Later, I found a port pad. It was...confusing. It had these options: "Bowling Alley", "Education Par", Entertainmen", Supermarket", "clinic", and five completely empty buttons. I still haz a confuse.



I wandered into the courtyard area and finally saw this sign. Oh, so I have to get there on my own, there's no direct port? That's annoying.



That's...not a sign style you see every day.



There's a tricky, but doable, corn maze that's fun to go through.

However, I got lost out the other side. I pretty much had to go back to the beginning and take a couple different paths before I cound the house.



Warning: the house is not for arachnophobes, so do be aware.



This was an interesting thing--one of the outdoor wandering spirits has apparently been given the house to patrol. Which means he randomly floats through rooms, through walls, circles back, and wanders through again.

Evolving Images apparently has a haunt this year. Their description states:

Visit the dining room for Halloween treats, and the kitchen for beanie and snake stew. Most Halloween décor is set for sale, but explore the grounds for some hidden free Halloween décor. Be careful going upstairs, it is called a haunted house! mwahaha

Okay. Let's check it out.



Who puts a haunt on a bright sunny beach? I'm at least setting the day cycle to midnight.



The ripped clown does not fill me with confidence. But I will say, the rest of the downstairs being decorated for a party doesn't hurt--Halloween house-party nostalgia is strong this year.



That's clever, and it's apparently made by Evolving Images.



I'm not sure which disturbs me more: that the presence of toys suggests this is a child's bedroom; that it's the only bedroom in the house; that this bedroom seems to be doing double duty as body storage; or that the storm seems to be coming from inside the house.

Overall, this isn't terrible. I found it laggy, but that could be me right now--Windows updated on my comp and everything has been as slow as molasses since. I will add, though, that everything in the house seems to be purchasable, so...there's that.
