While answering that, he sent me a friend request. I declined.

[06:34 PM] Emilly Orr: We help people rent land in Solace Beach.
[06:34 PM] payawesome Resident: COOL
[06:34 PM] Emilly Orr: PLEASE STOP SHOUTING.

I'm really starting to hate that last name.

I hated it at first, but it does make hostessing so much easier in Caledon :)
Good evening Miss Resident, Hello Mr Resident!

Yes, but that's part of the problem. We're all residents. Resident is a catch-all for the collective class of avatar...Maybe that's what ticks me off so much. That 'Guest' and 'Resident' accounts seem interchangeable in my mind, as someone purely temporary. In my mind, it's proper to be polite, but I sometimes forget that I can send notecards and landmarks (like my Newcomer Help folder) to Resident people, because Guest people can't receive anything sent.

I can't stand the name either. It depresses me, like seeing Jed Clampett - well, Jed Resident - and his clan invade. It's not their fault, I realize. It's a horrible naming convention.

And so far it doesn't help that every avatar named "Resident" I've seen to date has either named themselves all in lower-case, or misspelled their own name!

(I admit, I'm a spelling elitist. To this very day, I can't follow the lead singer of Abney Park on Twitter; I just have no respect for a man who spells "Captain" wrong when that's part of his name.)

I imagine with dealing with alot of people often, that this could get really annoying. I definitely think this move by LL is just plain stupid. I can't think of any other way to word it. Sure it makes it easier for them but if you just search resident and see alllllllll the miserable and fake avs or alts created - it just makes no sense to me. More and more we're spiralling down this hole of stupid combined with misery that is becoming SL.

That is such a perfect statement.

And here's the big thing--how is getting a bunch of people on the grid who don't care, or are actively griefers looking for kicks--because more than a few Residents have been mentioned on the griefing rolls--improving the grid in any way? This, combined with the display name oddity (which seems to only work IF you're using a compatible browser, both to change your name, or to see the changes) is making it really difficult to trust newcomers.

I'm a spelling snob, too (which means I'm especially embarrassed when I misspell something myself - generally because I was too lazy to run spell-check).

But I give poor Captain Robert a break. The man is clearly dyslexic - look at his tweets and you'll see that he essentially randomizes on homophones - and yet he works hard on his lyrics.

It is odd the way many in the Resident family spell their names, though I suppose Display Names is supposed to take care of any mistakes made in the sign-up process. I've been in Babbage a fair amount of late, working on the Black Heart mystery, and very young avatars continue to arrive - as you say, with lower-case names, odd spellings, and odd ways of dressing, especially for the Steamlands.

I really should give dyslexics more of a break than I do. I married one, after all, and while she's vastly improved (more due to developing skills in typing than anything else), I still have that knee-jerk reaction.

Every new family has oddity; the same could be said in the main of the Allens when they arrived; I remember being pleasantly surprised for nearly an entire year whenever I ran across an Allen that didn't have numbers in the name.

Still, the Residents I've met so far seem an unprepossessing lot, comprised of three main statements:

"Give me money."
"Give me sex."
"This is a stupid game lol."

I...I just can't respect people like that.

hide away, they say, 'cos we don't want your broken parts

Yeah, so...remember that thing I was recovering from? You know, last year ? Yeah. I did it again. So this is Em Faw Down Go Boom part ...
