cameraman, swing the focus, in case I lost my train of thought

This is both a lovely gesture for Hurricane Sandy victims, and a marvelously easy make-ahead holiday gift (since we are steadily closing in on Winter Solstice activities). The only thing I'll add--behind mentioning that the entire blog is a joy to read--is that this recipe can easily be made vegan-friendly.

How? By substituting flax seed for the egg. Bob's Red Mill, as well as many other health food stores, carries both whole flax seeds, and flax seed meal. If you're not sure you'll use that much flax seed meal before it goes rancid (ground meal lasts about a month, whole seeds keep around a year), then just get a package of whole flax seeds and a coffee or spice grinder. Grinders retail for anywhere between five and fifty dollars, overall, and trust me--a five-buck grinder will do just as good a job as a fifty-buck grinder.

Then just add one Tablespoon of ground flax to 3 Tablespoons of lukewarm water, stir, let sit for a minute or two, and you have a vegan egg. This will work for both recipes requiring whole eggs, and recipes requiring egg whites.

(Also, according to another blog, you can use ground flax to replace flour in baked goods, to lower the carb content. I did not know that.)

Another easy holiday craft--and this one's a favorite of my cousin, as it happens--is the tied, no-sewing-required, fleece blanket. What you'll need besides two large enough/long enough pieces of fleece? A ruler and sharp scissors.

No, really, that's it. Between 1 1/3 and 2 yards will make a baby-size quilt, or a lap quilt; go larger if you need to, the process is the same. I can assure you they're very warm (Miss Neome got given one two years ago; she still uses it, and occasionally I steal it from her and use it, so yes, warm and snuggly indeed!) and generally colorful, home-brightening gifts.

What else has crossed the dash this morning...Oh! Kickstarter things!

The Morbid Anatomy Anthology is now fully funded! Also, Lindsay Porter's felted 80's kitsch projects are now half-funded, with over a month to go. And--my personal favorite--the "tweedpunk" game, Sir, You Are Being Hunted is fully funded and will become a reality!

And Qarl Linden's mesh deformer project still needs makers of mesh objects to send him products for testing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help him do this!

Also, found by random happenstance today, there's a certain web address that used to lead to a protest/petition site that sent signed petitions directly to the Lindens. Now, five years later, it's a Japanese site that seems to be selling crab online:
If such people send him the finest crab, etc. according to the special day, you will be more special day that day.
If you use the mail order of crab, the Internet You are a good idea.
By using the Internet, it is possible to examine a lot of delicious crab can be.
But, being as it's badly translated from Japanese, it's hard to tell.

Reuters today noted an intense drop in stock prices for NCSoft. They went from ₩213,000.00 to ₩174,000.00, a loss of ₩7,500.00, or 4% of their total profits. Gosh, maybe they shouldn't have cut down City of Heroes where it stood. They might have been better off.

...Jerks.

the self-sustained obscurity

As some astute readers have noticed, the blog is in transition! So far, my reviews of (previous but recent) formats have gained one of two responses:
  • AAAAH MY EYES
  • Now you're hard to read!
I am working hard to reconfigure, while bitterly kicking myself again over my steady failure to learn CSS properly, and trying to find a font I can cope with that's also legible for readers.

Expect the graphics and possibly the layout to change, but not as much as in recent history, though the colors will likely remain. I'm in a harvest mood.

Or maybe a letting-things-die mood. It might be the same thing.

Apologies for the rearranging, the colors, the fonts, the layout, and I should have things fixed soon!

How do we cope with loss? This is something that's been on my mind a great deal, of late. A love lost, a child lost, a breakup, even the loss of a job can break us open, leave us raw and wounded in its wake. We can move through all the anticipated stages--anger, grief, denial, resignation...depression. We can stagger forward, or stand still, but we're still mired in the sensation of loss.

(from the loss album; in the catacombs at RMK Gothic)

We can push it aside and plunge hip-deep into activities to busy our hearts and minds. We may sleep more, or have trouble sleeping. We may frantically form new friendships to distract us, or we may pull back entirely, away from loves and friends, because we feel that unless they've been there, unless they've stood where we are, they won't understand.

(from the loss album; in the catacombs at RMK Gothic)

Isolation is one response to grief. The problem inherent in isolation is that by pulling away to heal, we make ourselves alone; because we've pulled away to this extent, we are not surrounded by, or supported by, anyone who might want to help.

(from the loss album; in the catacombs at RMK Gothic)

Some facts on loss...and the myths to which they're connected.

MYTH: The pain will go away faster if I don't deal with it. If I ignore it, it will just go away.
FACT: This is wrong. If we ignore pain we're in, if we try to keep it from surfacing, we only make it hurt more in the long run. That's true of any emotional pain, not just grief and mourning. While it's generally the last thing we want to do, if we're ever to get better, and feel the loss less keenly, we have to deal with what we feel. Even if what we feel is painful, or if it hurts, or if it makes us angry, or mourn more deeply. At some point, we have to accept the loss, and work on healing.

MYTH: I need to be strong right now. I can't be seen as weak. Crying is weakness. Grieving is weakness.
FACT: What we feel is what we feel; it's only strong or weak in how we perceive the feelings. Our feelings just are. Trying to hide what we feel to be strong for others may be something we think of as brave, or courageous, or necessary. But it's none of these things. It's just another block to dealing with our feelings.

MYTH: There are five stages to grief, right? After I've felt all five, I'll feel better.
FACT: You might. But because grief is unpredictable, you might not. You might move through two of the stages, then go back to the beginning again. Or flash forward to the end stage before one of the other stages trips you up. And that's assuming you feel five distinct, separate stages to begin with, and not everyone does.

Mourning isn't predictable. It's messy, chaotic, and uncoordinated, which is just part of the process. There's no time limit, and there's no set number of stages that need to be gone through, like checking off items on a list. Mourning takes time.

MYTH: It's been a year. I should be better by now.
FACT: This one isn't true, either. Grief takes as long as it takes. Some people recover within six months. Queen Victoria stayed in mourning the rest of her life. People vary. It's okay if we're still hurting after a year...or longer.

More understandable stages (slightly modified from this):
  • Numbness: The phase immediately following a loss. We are hurting deeply, but it's so total, so overwhelming, we feel numb. Numbness is our biggest defense mechanism; it's what allows us to keep moving, keep breathing, and stay alive after loss.
  • Pining: This is the "if only" phase. This is when we want nothing more than to have what we lost back, whether it's a person, a place, or a thing. We are living in that space of "if we just could--". There is longing, there is yearning, and this may be where the original 'five stages' came from. This is a highly friable, highly emotional place to be.
  • Despair: Despair makes us pull away. We are feeling as much as we did during the numb phase, but without that bandaging coat of detachment. To foster that sense of numb detachment once more, we frequently do our best to pull back, to withdraw from contact with friends and family. We may no longer find enjoyable activities or even job duties we once embraced. We may find ourselves sinking into lethargy, into apathy.
  • Recovery: Recovery is what comes after the above phases. We begin to reorganize around the perceived loss. We find where our new set-point for "normal" lies, and learn how to integrate that to our former "normal"--whatever that was. Lethargy decreases, energy increases, and we find ourselves thinking more positively about our loss, whatever it was. (Or at least stop obsessing on why we suffered that loss in the first place.)
(from the loss album; in the catacombs at RMK Gothic)

So how can we reach out, if we feel we can't interact, if we feel alone even in a crowd?

At least in the US, there's the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). There's also the National Alliance on Mental Illness, at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264). If neither can help with our specific issues, they can at least help direct our call to someone else. Sometimes talking to strangers is easier than talking to our friends.

For finding a grief counselor, beyond a single call, try the GoodTherapy.org site. Therapy is far from the only solution, however--in fact, many people are better off grieving on their own. For these individuals, grief is simply another process--someone dies, someone leaves, we miss them, but we move on.

Remember, there is no "right" way to deal with loss, but our biggest keys to understanding how we react to loss, to grief, is to watch ourselves going through it. Sometimes we hurt, and that's just where we are. Sometimes we need external help, and that help can be in the form of friends, loved ones, or even therapists. Therapy isn't the only answer, it's just one answer. But don't stand alone if you don't have to. Talk to someone. If it's something you can't deal with, try and reach out.

Taking that first step is scary; believe me, I know that. But it's the first step in walking forward. Good things, bad things, both are along the way out, but you're walking towards the rest of your life. And movement is nearly always better than just standing still.

the curtains ran between my legs as we began to sink

The last couple of things for the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue: her luminous eye effects.

In short, each eye set comes with a set of pre-made "highlights", in two sets of three strengths each. There's an iris low-light, an iris mid-light, and an iris highlight. This is the iris highlight with the Scarlet eyes:

(from the Avatars album; the iris highlights)

It's very subtle. I snapped this photo on default Midnight, so trust me, while it is visible, it's more in the nature of a gentle glow.

There's also a set of socket lights, in low-light, mid-light, and highlight. This is the socket highlight with the Scarlet eyes:

(from the Avatars album; the socket highlights)

These are far from subtle, but keep in mind I'm also showing the effects on the eyes at full strength, with the default Midnight setting. There are two other included socket light levels.

And...that's about it. Anyone who's actually read through each one of these deserves a medal, or something.

now hush, love, hush. here's your gown. there's the bed; lanterns down.

[21:30] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: Someone is *breaking* a spanker at Doomed Ship.
[21:30] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: gotta love people. :D
[21:30] Emilly Orr: How...does one break a spanker?
[21:30] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: By setting it to spank -way- too many times.
[21:30] Emilly Orr facepalms
[21:31] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I can't honestly bring myself to believe that they're using it as part of some perverse RP.
[21:32] Emilly Orr: Honestly, is there just a higher percentage of idiots on the Doomed ship than anywhere else? Because I swear, I know some of the people who hang out there, and they all SEEM to have functional brains.
[21:32] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: XD
[21:33] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I think the sex tentacles help bring'em out.
[21:33] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: Even though they removed that whole portion of the ship with the most of them.
[21:33] Emilly Orr: Yeah, exactly. You'd think that would DROP the percentage of dumb, not increase it.

Questions for the ages. Perhaps we lowly mortals are not truly meant to know.

And it's official, people--Oskar Linden has left the Lab.

And if you need ideas for next Hallows--or your next costume party--you could always go greyscale for an evening. (Amusingly, I've been collecting greyscale skins in SL, so I could conceivably do this in-world, too.)

And news of the latest invasion force infiltrating the grid: GIANT MEN IN LEDERHOSEN. Run! Hide the children!

And now for the last bit of eye-centricity: the last set of the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Dryad" eyes remind me of ivy shadows in dim and mossy groves, as the harvest moon (in this case, in triplicate) rises overhead.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Forest" eyes continue this conceit, replacing the ivy with multilimbed, multibarked trees by a green rill.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Hunter" eyes are a strong and sure Loden green, with just a hint of lantern gold.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Meadow" eyes fascinate me. If I'm looking to my left, they're rose, silver and gold will-o-the-wisps, drifting through a green meadow just lightly touched with autumn frost. But if I'm looking to the right, it's all thick moss on green stones dappled by moonlight and wine.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Pear" eyes don't so much remind me of pears, per se, as they do of traditional French pear brandy.

(from the Avatars album; the Woodland set from the Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

And finally, the "Swamp eyes", which are perfectly reminiscent of peat bogs, deep swamps, with little glowing traceries of swamp gas and eldritch glow. All of these are from the Woodland set.

(And the final style notations: The hair you don't see is from Ploom. Outfit's multilayered, but the fishnets are from Insolence, the boots are from Show Me On the Doll (back when they existed), the high-waist shorts are from 1-800-Bettie's, and the cropped jacket is from Somnia and was acquired during one of Hellbop's cart sales. And the forehead jewels are from the Arachnos skin set at Fallen Gods [it came with spider back-arms and the Arachnos skin as well, and it's no longer available].)

the captain howled heave ho, heave ho, and tied me up with sheets

Now we're up to the Vicious set of Cassiopeia eyes, designed by Rue.

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

We start off with "Blood", a swirling, slowly clotting mass of arterial spray in eye form.

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

Next up: "Burgundy", which reminds me strangely of Amsterdam's Red Light district. Maybe it's the tilt-shift towards pink-reds over orange-reds.

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Crimson" is a strangely gleeful shade, bright and effervescent as cherry soda. (Though on my way towards finding a good, clear image, I found something I might have to make this Thanksgiving: sour cream cranberry pie.)

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Malice" eyes, I think because of Discord Designs' hair, I thought would be lividly red, glowing like hellish embers in the darkness. Instead, Miss Ruina took a different tack--concentric rings of dark ash, blackened wood, and smoke, surrounding triple pupils invoking heated filaments, banked fires, and cherry quartz.

I really, really like how these eyes turned out.

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Scarlet" eyes take the slightly pinked nature of "Burgundy" or "Crimson", and alters its path--it's closer to a deep, rich merlot or pinot noir, or mayhap just water strained from a cranberry bog.

(from the Avatars album; the Vicious Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

And we end with the "Violent" eyes, which reminds me of nothing more than the Cheshire cat with his throat slit.

More to come!

(And the dress you still can't see is from FallnAngel Designs, the "Rhy" dress in Purple, acquired in the Halloween hunt [now over]. Hair's from Sugarsmack, Kai hair in Ginger-Berri [Hair Fair 2012]. Horns are Rue's "Shaman" horns in TrickOrTreat, part of the Eclectic Desires L$10 skull hunt [no longer available]. 05 November, 2012

like Jonah, will be swallowed whole, and spat back teeth and bones

The next set of Cassiopeia eyes, designed by Rue.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

So, more things I had to look up..."Cichlid" is a fish! A small Nigerian fish, they come in several brightly-colored variations, of which one is, apparently, purple. (Being living things, they're also highly variable even in specified shades--I offer this video as proof, because of them is purple and silver, more or less, and the other is mostly silver and vibrant pink, with a thin blued purple stripe.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

"Cobalt" takes the triple-pupil color from "Cichlid", then darkens and flattens the shade. They're still gorgeous, with the interwoven blue and purple strands, but they're not as glossy.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

The actual cornflower is one of the few true blue flowers; how'ver, even knowing that, some variations have been grown that are closer to purple and pink. Midway between these two shades lies the "Cornflower" eyes.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

On the other hand, I had heard of "Damselfish" before, but the trick with these eyes is that, as eyes, they are drenched in color, vibrant and dark, glistening and alive.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

"Delusion" remains--at least on the surface, and the outer ring--blued like the rest of the Twilight set, but inside the rings, it's utter chaos. Black, gold, pink, blue, aqua, teal, brown, rust, salmon, white, yellow, grey, mixing and unmatching on whimsy and whim alone.

(from the Avatars album; the Twilight set of Cassiopeia eyes by Rue)

And we're brought to the end in "Indigo", a rich, nearly murex purple tone, even though indigo dye tends to favor blue tones over purple ones.

Still more on the way!

(Dress is from FallnAngel Designs, the "Rhy" dress in Purple, acquired in the Halloween hunt [now over]. Hair's from Sugarsmack, Kai hair in Ginger-Berri [Hair Fair 2012]. Horns are Rue's "Shaman" horns in TrickOrTreat, part of the Eclectic Desires L$10 skull hunt [no longer available]. The forehead jewels are from the Arachnos skin set at Fallen Gods [it comes with spider back-arms and the Arachnos skin as well, and it's no longer available].)

you make me fear, make me fall, make me run for cover

The next set of Cassiopeia eyes, designed by Rue.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Caribbean" starts off the Tides set, with a rich, brilliant melding of blue and aqua, teal and green. It's easy to see the ocean in these eyes.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

For "Deep", don't think deep seas, but Deep Ones, and you'll better understand the shade.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Lagoon", on the other hand, is the early "Caribbean", but seen during a summer heatwave, when the sun is bright and the sand is warm.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Pale Emerald" reminds me less of emeralds--pale or not--and more of chrysoprase. Either way, it's a richly shaded set of eyes.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

When your beach is made of white sand, and the water just meets the shore, "Reef" is the color you'll get. Clear, glimmering shades of blue, aqua, cyan, teal, with three pupil circles of seafoam white.

(from the Avatars album; part of the Tides set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

And the last one in the Tides set, "Turquoise", is reminiscent of the best shifting shades of blue-green stone. Shaded concentric circles of aquamarine embracing that pure streaked turquoise tone, surrounding pale and dark green coloration.

More to come!

(The dress you don't see is from FallnAngel Designs, the "Rhy" dress in Purple, acquired in the Halloween hunt [now over]. Hair--which you only barely see--is from Sugarsmack, Kai hair in Ginger-Berri [Hair Fair 2012]. Horns are Rue's "Shaman" horns in TrickOrTreat, part of the Eclectic Desires L$10 skull hunt [no longer available]. DV8 made the Danse Macabre boots in Black [no way to acquire them, DV8's off the grid]. Skin's still from MoMo. The forehead jewels are from the Arachnos skin set at Fallen Gods [it comes with spider back-arms and the Arachnos skin as well, and it's no longer available].)

04 November, 2012

but I don't want to go to sleep; in all my dreams, I drown

(from the Avatars album; the purple "Rhy" dress from Falln's Hallows hunt)

So, I didn't do a lot of the Falln brains hunt this year, for two significant reasons:
  • I had L$13 in Lindens. (Seriously. That's exactly what I started with, at the end of all the upload fees for SEVER.)
  • I was dealing with some (perhaps understandable, but also wholly irritating) relationship depression, and just didn't feel like socializing.
How'ver, Azriel changed the Midnight Manias, which have some really fun things for November, and in the process of running around tapping the boards, I picked up a few brains, and answered a trivia question correctly! So I got something terrifying I'll likely be taking pictures of when all the eye entries finish posting, and while I was doing that, I won a couple skins and an outfit just for being in Falln!

Just phenomenal, and it helped elevate my mood, and then I started unpacking a few of the brains, and found this. Which is a beautifully detailed, sari-inspired dress, in sumptuous shades of purple, red, and gold. It has pretty flower details along the waist and bustline, and long lengths of lavender silk that fasten to bright gold bangles that slide over my arms. I love this. I definitely want to find out what other colors of the "Rhys" he's released.

Now, more from the run through the Cassiopeia eyes, from Rue.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

This is a dark shade of "Grass" indeed, midway between Kentucky bluegrass and Black Beauty grass, combined to form a shimmering, nearly glowing green.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

The "Honeydew" eyes are darker than most honeydew melons I've actually seen, but it is nicely reminiscent of Midori liqueur.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Kelly" was another one I had to look up. According to Wikipedia, Miss Ruina's right on target for her definition of "Kelly green". I had that moment of headtilt, though, because I've grown up thinking of the shade as a much darker, muted green than these eyes display.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Leaf" is another strong, glossy green, reminding me of philodendrons and Anubias broadleaf plants, smooth and lustrously green.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Shamrock" makes me think of red clover in the rain. It's multilayered, clean, and clear.

(from the Avatars album; the "Summer" set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Viridian" is a lovely word. Specifically, it indicates a cold green that's generally formed from oxide of chromium, but it can also be a descriptive. (Even better, some net research revealed it's also a Magic: the Gathering card, which is amusing.)

Miss Ruina's version glows with strong, eldritch power. They look like they could power a spare reactor, or be used to light someone along their path. They're very bright all on their own.

And that's all for the Summer set. Almost done!

DV8 made the Danse Macabre boots in Black [no way to acquire them, DV8's off the grid]. Skin's still from MoMo. The forehead jewels are from the Arachnos skin set at Fallen Gods [it comes with spider back-arms and the Arachnos skin as well, and it's no longer available].)

you left me wonder you into a myth that I missed

And the "Spring" set from the Cassiopeia eyes, designed by Rue.

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

We start off with "Chartreuse", which is a vivid mix of green and yellow tones. (It's also a fairly stellar herbal liqueur.)

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Green Apple" is next, and this is perfectly reminiscent of crisp, tart green apples, fresh from the tree.

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Green Gold" is next, and this is another one I had to look up. Apparently green gold is really a thing; while it's not natural, the admixture of gold and silver creates a slight, subtle greenish hue to the gold.

In these eyes, of course, it's a much stronger tinting, but--as with green gold in RL--there is more gold than green to the tone.

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Lizard" takes the green-gold and amps it up with a layer of molten metal, surrounding malachite glow.

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

"Moss" is one of my favorites for this set, but then, I have chosen to live voluntarily in a place where moss is not a distraction, but a way of life. This eye brings the best of those colors to life: the muted greens, the hints of grey, the new yellow curling fronds, the feathery darker greens threading through, from shadow to light.

(from the Avatars album; the next set of Cassiopeia eyes from Rue)

We end with "Olive", which is an admixture of fern, asparagus, pistachio, avocado, olive and pale amber hues, set gently into a pool of algae and stirred.

More to come!

(Horns from Rue, they were part of the Eclectic Desires L$10 skull hunt [no longer available]. Hair's from Ploom. Skin's still from MoMo. Forehead jewels are from the Arachnos skin set at Fallen Gods [it comes with spider back-arms and the Arachnos skin as well; it's likely no longer available].)

"Motherly". Seriously. And they're scripted, which means she's carting around individually posed and primmed babies around in front of her. For...reasons.

Reasons I can't, obviously, find a way to comprehend.

[22:07] Axx Txxxxx: i'm pretty sure there's a pic of that on the What the Fug flickr group.
[22:07] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I feel like I've seen it there before too
[22:07] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: first time seeing it in person, though!
[22:08] Axx Txxxxx: XD
[22:09] Axx Txxxxx: Emilly, I think the stream of babies is the different baby positions from the womb to birth.
[22:10] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I think that may've just given me the hiccups
[22:12] Axx Txxxxx: here! i found it!
[22:15] Emilly Orr: I...don't...my brain has a fail.
[22:15] Axx Txxxxx: *patspats*

But that wasn't bad enough. A few days later:

[20:01] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: ...I am at doomedship, and there is a toddler neko here.
[20:01] Emilly Orr facepalms
[20:01] Emilly Orr: Why? For the love of all gods, why?

(from the bizarre album; toddler on Doomed)

PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY, now. WTF is the draw to go traipsing about Doomed as a CHILD?!? I mean, I have enough problems with credulity to accept someone that looks like a teenager, but THIS?!? This toddler with a pacifier in sock feet?!?

[20:04] Axx Txxxxx: what is it doing now?
[20:04] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I think it may have TPed out, but I'm -not- sure.
[20:05] Cxxxx Nxxxxxxx: I went back to buy the cam hud and it's no longer here.
[20:07] Emilly Orr: Or it got bounced.

See, here's the thing. Granted, now that the designer behind Doomed wants to take it into wider roleplay, the Adult poses are slowly disappearing from the winding chambers and substructures that make up the ship. So it's very much a structure in transition, and I do understand that--there's going to be a mix of old and new players, there will be clashes, likely drama, mayhap controversy. Obviously, there are going to be players who want to keep the Adult content, arguing with those who don't want it on the ship. It's going to become a heated debate.

But there is a line, and I feel this is one that is drawn quite decisively--the Doomed ship is not a childrens' playspace! Grow the hell up and GET OFF THE DAMNED SHIP!

there's nothing but chains around me

Allll right then. Let's talk about (hopefully) this year's haunt, Neon Ascendance. (Which needs a better name.) So the first hic...
